Cendrillion Wedding Invitations

Instead of the traditional question/answer test after reading a story, I decided to have the students create a wedding invitation that highlighted some of the key facts in the story we read, Cendrillion.

In our Houghton Mifflin series, Cendrillion is a story that compares to the story of Cinderella.  Students had to create a wedding invitation for Paul and Cendrillion's wedding, including where and when it took place as well as some important facts about Martinique; the place where the story originated.  Take a look at some of the amazing invitations the students made!

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

We started our new novel yesterday, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis.

I've attached our novel study guide that includes a variety of activities, vocabulary, and chapter questions.   The students have a copy here, however, just in case they lose it, here is one for you to have at home!  Please talk about the novel with your child and talk to them about some of the metaphors and similies that are located throughout the novel.  At then end of this novel, we will be watching the Narnia movie and comparing the novel to the movie!  This should be a great read and a great segway into our poetry unit!

Chapter 6 Math Test

We are reviewing Chapter 6 in our Everyday Math series and there will be a test over this chapter on Friday!  I've created a study guide for the students to complete at home.  Please go over this with them and make sure they understand these concepts!

Cendrillion

We are reading the Houghton Mifflin series book and are on the story of Cendrillion.  This is a folktale from Martinique and is compared to the story of Cinderella.  We've been doing Venn diagrams comparing the stories and will start an activity where the students will create a Wedding Announcement for Paul and Cendrillion in the story.  I've attached the outline of what I want!  Take a look and please let me know if you have any questions!

Friendship Cinquain Poems

We did a little interview activity during my first week and created these friendship cinquain poems! Each student had to interview one of their fellow classmates and get to know some of their likes and dislikes!  The kids loved these and they were very creative ;)
Check them out below!

Thank you to Laura Candler for this great idea!

Truffala Trees and Read Across America Day

Read Across America Day was March 2nd, but the month of March is Reading month!  We will be doing a lot of reading activities, but here are some of the activities we did that day!  We particpated in a Reading Marathon, made truffula trees from Dr. Seuss's, The Lorax, and read a bunch of Dr. Seuss books!  Take a look at some of our creations that day!

I created these posters to hang in the classroom! I love all of these Dr. Seuss Quotes!
