ISTEP

ISTEP

ISTEP testing will begin the week of March 5th to the 9th.

PLEASE be sure that your children get plenty of rest, eat a healthy and fulfilling breakfast, and come to school on time!  Please try to be at school all week!

There will be no homework this week!

Homework

Homework is a tool that will be used to help monitor progress and will be used to help assess student progress.

Weekly Homework will be assigned every Monday and be due the following Friday.

Homework will be checked at the beginning of class and if it is not finished, students will complete it during their recess until it is done.

Homework will cover the weekly skills that are talked about during classroom discussion and instruction.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Behavior Plan

I mentioned to the students today that we will be implementing a new behavior plan starting on Tuesday, February 28th.  I'd like to go into a bit more detail and outline the reasons why this new system will work in the classroom.

I believe that the classroom should be a learning environment for everyone. This system will allow each student to get the most out of their time at school.  We come to school to learn, not to socialize and misbehave.

Here is what I am suggesting:

A Stoplight System Approach or 3 strikes your out approach in which students will be given 3 opportunities a day to "fix" the behaviors that are disruptive.

  • First strike will result in a verbal WARNING

  • Second strike will result in NO RECESS

  • Third strike will result in a NOTE HOME (This note must be signed by a parent)

If the disruptive behaviors continue, I will be making phone calls home and setting up parent teacher meetings.  These meetings will be a brainstorm session with both myself, the parent, and the student to help figure out why the behaviors are occurring and what we can do to stop them from happening.

If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me!

Welcome

Hello!

My name is Melissa Bushnell and I am so excited to be part of the 4th grade team here at Timothy Ball Elementary!  I will be updating the blog from time to time with things we are doing in class and things that you can help your child at home with!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through my school email at mbushnell@cps.k12.in.us!

I look forward to the rest of this school year!  Attached are the documents that I'd like for all of you to fill out and return to me no later than Friday, March 2nd!  They were also sent home, but just in case ;)
