Reading Marathon

The reading marathon was great!  We had some really creative pictures and awesome ideas!  We will be able to finish the activity on Monday after ISTEP!

Truffula Tree Cupcake Recipe

So the kids LOVED the Truffula Tree Cupcakes!  I wanted to include the receipe just in case you might want to make them with the kiddos this weekend!

Ingredients:

• 1 green-frosted cupcake per individual
• 1 pretzel rod
• White frosting
• Ball of cotton candy

Note:  I made the cupcakes and the frosting myself, you could always buy pre-made cupcakes!!!

Directions:

1. Stick a pretzel rod into the center of the cupcake.
2. Put a dot of white frosting on the top of the pretzel rod.
3. Stick the ball of cotton candy onto the top of the pretzel rod using the frosting as "glue."

This was a lot of fun!  I'll be posting pictures this weekend of the kids creations!

Truffula Tree Cupcakes

On Read Across America Day, March 2nd, we will be making Truffula Tree Cupcakes in the classroom!

I'll be making the cupcakes tonight and the kiddos will be able to decorate them as Truffula Trees!  Be sure to check out the pictures I will be posting tomorrow!

Reading Marathon on March 2nd!

Bring in your Dr. Suess book and another book that you love to read!

Materials: (for each child)
-white paper, folded into 6 sections- plain printer paper or white construction paper will do
-leveled text
-crayons, colored pencils, pencil

Time: about 90 minutes

Pass out a book(should be the child's independent level) and a sheet of folded paper to each child. Students may use books that they are currently reading. Explain that they will be participating in a Reading Marathon. Students should  complete each section in the time alloted.

10 minutes: Section 1- Make a new cover for your book. Color the cover, be sure to include the title and author.

10 minutes: students reading silently.

10 minutes: Section 2- Write three important details about your favorite character. Draw and color a picture of the character.

10 minutes: students reading silently

10 minutes: Section 3- Write a quick summary of the book part you just read.

10 minutes: Section 4- Draw a visualization from the book. Write a sentence explaining your visualization.

10 minutes: students reading silently

10 minutes: Section 5- Write 3 questions you've had about the book so far.

10 minutes: Section 6- Draw a picture and write a sentence about your book's setting.

Study!!!

We will be having our Weekly Spelling Test on Friday along with our Vocabulary Unit 11 test!  Please study tonight so that you are ready!!!

READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

March 2nd, 2012 is READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY!

We will be doing some fun things in the class!  Please bring in a Dr. Seuss book for our "Reading Marathon" and bring in any other book that you would like to share with the class.  I want the students to have a love for reading and I want to help foster that within the classroom.  Tomorrow will be a good day to share what books we all enjoy reading!

Bring in a Dr. Seuss book and any other book that you like!

Homework: FEB. 27th-MAR. 2nd

Homework will be given Monday thru Thursday

It will all be due on the Friday of each week.

Homework for the week of February 27th to March 2nd is:

• Spelling 3X each in cursive
• Vocabulary Unit 11 sentences
• Spelling sentences using 6-8 words for each
• Division Packets
• BioPoem
